Our History

Malaria No More was established in the US in 2006 by News Corporation President Peter Chernin and Wall Street pioneer Ray Chambers. Since that time, Malaria No More has been at the centre of some of the biggest successes in the malaria fight including:

  • Co-hosting the first White House Summit on Malaria, September 2008 and prompting U.S. participation on World Malaria Day, 25 April
  • Educating over 40 million Americans about malaria and raising tens of millions of dollars through involvement in 'Idol Gives Back' charity specials on American Idol, April 2007 & 2008
  • Facilitating direct investments to help mobilise 15 million mosquito nets to protect 30 million African mothers and their children from malaria
  • Working with the UK & US governments at the 2008 G8 and the EU to secure a pledge of 100 million mosquito nets for Africa by the end of 2010

In September 2008, Malaria No More, the UK Department for International Development, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Office of the UN Special Envoy for Malaria hosted the 2008 MDG Malaria Summit, which saw the launch of Roll Back Malaria’s Global Malaria Action Plan to help achieve the goals. Malaria No More is a key ingredient in this plan.

Malaria No More UK was founded in 2008 in order to strengthen UK political and financial support and increase the UK public’s awareness of the impact of malaria in Africa. The first Executive Director, Sarah Kline, was appointed on December 1 and Sarah has since appointed a small team.
