About us
Malaria No More UK is part of a global effort to put an end to the suffering and death caused by malaria.
Malaria No More UK is an entrepreneurial, not-for-profit organisation, committed to ending unnecessary death caused by malaria. Working with governments, corporations and the public, Malaria No More combines a powerful blend of funding, advocacy, popular campaigning and on-the-ground implementation to achieve its goal of eliminating malaria deaths.
Malaria No More aims to:
- Ensure every man, women and child at risk of malaria in Africa has access to a mosquito net by the end of 2010.
- Put an end to malaria deaths completely by 2015
Malaria No More was established in the US in 2006 by News Corporation President Peter Chernin and Wall Street pioneer Ray Chambers. They decided to apply their private sector expertise and considerable networks to tackle the world's biggest solvable health crisis.
Malaria No More affiliates already operate in the US, Netherlands and Canada and join an international network of organisations dedicated to tackling malaria including the UN Foundation and the Gates Foundation as part of the Roll Back Malaria Partnership.
Why malaria & why now?
The UK launch in April 2009 was timed to capitalise on the unprecedented opportunity to end malaria brought about by mounting political will and record global funding commitments.
Malaria is a solvable crisis but yet nearly one million people in Africa die of malaria every year, and most are young children under five years old. The tools exist to tackle this crisis head on; mosquito nets, medicine and spraying protect and save lives. Success is already palpable in countries such as Ethiopia and Rwanda where implementation of these tools have cut deaths by malaria by over 50%.

Malaria No More UK recognises that ending malaria's death grip on Africa is the best humanitarian investment in the world today. Nothing else can have the same impact on as many people's lives and livelihoods as quickly or as cheaply. Malaria is one of the biggest poverty-related diseases, so eliminating malaria will not only save lives, it will also dramatically help reduce poverty, one of the key Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

It has never been easier to prevent malaria – £5 will buy and deliver a bed net to cover a mother and baby, or two children, for up to five years. Over 100 million bed nets have already been pledged by the G8 and EU – Malaria No More UK will help see that pledge delivered as well as ensure more nets are bought, that treatment is available and that knowledge is grown.
