The Big Multi Faith Tidy Up fundraiser
Dozens of young people volunteered to join The Big Multi Faith Tidy Up on February 25th 2010 and raised close to £1000 for Malaria No More UK through donations from businesses.
The 60 young people, faith leaders and councillors who took part collected 25 bags of rubbish. The tidy up was organised by the Leicester Inter-Faith Youth Hub along with the city council's street wardens team.

Yesterday the All Parliamentary Party Group (APPG) on Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases launched a new report, The Control of Malaria 2005-15: progress and priorities towards Eradication. Latest news on UKaid funding for bed nets
International Development Secretary Douglas Alexander announced last week that 14.6 million bed nets have been provided since 2008. According to DFID, this means UKaid has prevented more than 80,000 child deaths since 2008 and is on target to meet the Prime Minister’s pledge to deliver 20 million bednets by the end of 2010 and help prevent 110,000 child deaths. Cocobod Armajaro Traceable Foundation (CATF) provides 50,000 free bed nets to farmers in Ghana
Christmas came early this year for thousands of farmers in Ghana, thanks to a new programme launched by Cocobod Armajaro Traceable Foundation (CATF). The not-for-profit organisation was launched in 2008 to improve the livelihoods of cocoa farming communities in Ghana by reinvesting premiums which cocoa processors and chocolate manufacturers pay to purchase traceable cocoa. World Heath organisation’s 2009 World Malaria Report documents the international community’s significant success in tackling malaria over the past 10 years. UK government pledges another 30 million bed nets from 2010/11

Bognor Regis styles itself as the sunniest place in the UK. It didn’t feel that way as I drove around the town yesterday looking for the car park and start of the Bognor 10k run. Sarah Brown was a keynote speaker at Malaria Champions Breakfast on 23rd April. She spoke in front of the wives of 15 of Africa's political leaders in Los Angeles about the importance of maternal health in the fight against malaria. Tragically malaria strikes the most vulnerable meaning pregnant women and young children under five run the highest risk of catching malaria. Pregnant women are four times more likely to contract malaria than other adults.
