This week world leaders get together at the United Nations General Assembly to discuss and make decisions on the world’s most important issues. They will call for more progress on the Sustainable Development Goals as we enter a critical decade to deliver the targets for 2030.
Malaria is still a threat to half the world’s population. It dramatically affects people’s health, economies and potential to thrive. We know we can end malaria within a generation, but we need political will to make it happen. In the run up to the Global Fund Replenishment in October, which funds most of the malaria fight, we need to make our voices heard.
The UN General Assembly is our last opportunity to get world leaders’ attention before they make their pledges to the Global Fund and it’s crucial that we are louder than ever.
To help deliver the roar, Malaria Must Die has created an AR filter that simulates how the power of your voice can help us end malaria. Have a play on Facebook and Instagram and scare a swarm of mosquitoes away from your face by saying “Malaria Must Die!”. But don’t stop speaking up or they’ll come back - just like malaria does.
Life size versions of the filter will be displayed at key locations in New York during the week of UNGA where passers-by can take part in the interactive experience and help us end malaria.
Research proves that malaria declines with increased action. But recently, global efforts have stalled and, for the first time, we’re seeing malaria rising again in the most affected areas. This is why we can’t sit back now. Together, we can be the generation to beat the oldest and deadliest disease that still threatens half of the world’s population.
